Who places the children at the Children's Attention Home?
Typically the Department of Social Services requests that a child be placed at the Home. Occasionally, a law enforcement agency will refer children.

Where do they go when they leave the Children's Attention Home?
Over the past several years, less than 20% of the children have returned home. Approximately 78% of the children move to foster homes, long-term group homes or other emergency shelters. The remaining 2% move to psychiatric hospitals or treatment facilities.

Do the children live at the Home or just stay during the day?
The children live at the Home. We have 24-hour awake staff members that monitor the children throughout the day. The age appropriate children attend school. Meals and snacks are provided throughout the day.

Is the Children's Attention Home a state agency?
No, the Home is a private non-profit agency governed by a fifteen-member board of directors.

Can I, as a parent, place my children at the Children's Attention Home?
No, referrals are only accepted from the Department of Social Services or law enforcement agencies.

How is the Children's Attention Home funded?
The Home contracts with the SC Department of Social Services to provide residential and supportive services to the children. Grants are received from the SC Department of Public Safety and the Office of Economic Opportunity through the SC Governor's Office. The Home relies heavily on the support of our local communities to provide the additional funds needed to provide services to the children. Civic groups, churches, businesses, foundations and individuals all assist with funding the Home.

How do you become a board member?
Typically new members join the board in July of each year. You may contact the Executive Director of the Home or a board member to determine if board positions are available as well as to learn more about potential membership.

How can I donate money or in-kind gifts?
You may mail checks to the Children's Attention Home, Inc., PO Box 2912, Rock Hill, SC 29732. You may also contact the Volunteer Coordinator or the Executive Director to schedule a time to bring donations to the Home.

Can I designate how my money will be spent?
Yes, you may designate your gift. Presently the Home accepts general operating gifts, capital campaign donations and gifts to the endowment. If giving to the general operating fund, you may designate your gift to a specific line item such as recreation, clothing, food, etc.

May I volunteer at the Children's Attention Home?
We welcome volunteers to the Home. However, because of the services we provide to abused children, volunteers, staff and board members must undergo a background check. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator to initiate this process.

May I take children from the Children's Attention Home with me?
Unfortunately, you may not. If you are interested in spending time with our children, it must be done on our campus.

Does the Home have children that are eligible for adoption?
The Children's Attention Home is not an adoption agency. However, there are times that children living at the Home are up for adoption through the SC Department of Social Services. You may contact their website, www.state.sc.us/dss/adoption to learn more about adopting children.
